Honda has just announced a larger Fit a.k.a Jazz hatchback called the Fit Shuttle after brochure pictures of it were leaked. Somehow there is a demand for a more practical version of this car, which in my opinion is already a very practical car indeed. How much more practical can the Fit Shuttle be? Well, imagine a Fit/Jazz with a bigger hatch/rear load space and that’s about it as it still is a 4/5 seater.
With no sign of a third row of seats this means that the Shuttle isn’t meant to be classified as a proper people carrier (MPV) but more of a station wagon. This means that you can pack more stuff when you’re on that IKEA furniture run.
On sale over in Japan sometime this March 2011, the Fit Shuttle will come with the hatchback’s 1.5liter i-VTEC engine as well as a hybrid variant that will come with a 1.3liter engine and a poofy sounding 10kw electric motor and a ton of batteries that is needed to store the energy that powers the electric motor.
Whatever the case, I am sure that Honda will sell quite a lot of units as there is a market for vehicles that have extra load carrying space that actually isn’t needed 90% of the time. This Fit Shuttle also reminds me when the Civic was actually as small as the Fit and back then (see the photo above – 1984 Civic Shuttle
), Honda also had a Civic Shuttle. If they made a Civic Shuttle these days it’ll be huge....only slightly smaller than a space shuttle as cars seem to get larger and larger with every passing moment. I suppose this is progress, supposed progress.
