Honda recalls Civic hybrid in US

Honda recalled more than 35,000 Civic hybrids in the United States recently to fix a problem with the electrical system that could cause the headlights to turn off or the engine to stall.

Honda Motor Co. told the US government its recall would cover 2006-2007 model year Civic hybrids. The company said the voltage converter that relays power from the motor assist system to the vehicle’s electrical components could fail. Honda has received seven reports of stalling engines and 82 warranty claims connected to the problem. Dealers will replace the voltage converter at no charge. In Singapore, there is no news on such a recall by Kah Motors yet but I feel that the likelyhood is quite high.

This is certainly bad publicity for Honda hybrid models. Let’s see how it will impact the sales of the CRZ and the Insight, which was just launched officially in Singapore.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.

Is this the reason why you see majority of hybrid cars for sale in sgcarmart belonging to the Honda Civic model? Hardly see Prius for sale there... dry.gif

I think it's simply due to the fact there are far far more Civic Hybrids on the roads than the Prius which is a lot more expensive to buy.
