In an innovative marketing campaign, Chevrolet UK tried to capture the attention of the public with its life-size replica of the new Orlando MPV made from 1.5 tonnes of Play-Doh parked up in a London street.

The Chevrolet marketers came up with the idea after surveying 1,000 UK adults for their favorite nostalgic toy from their childhood. Play-Doh took the first place with 19 percent of the votes. This is followed closely by Legos with 17 percent and Kinder Egg with 15 percent. Crafted by a team of eight model makers over a two week period to mark the UK launch of Chevy’s new seven-seater minivan, the Play-Doh sculpture measures 4.6 metres long and 1.8 metres wide.

Les Turton from Chevrolet UK said in the press releases, “The new Orlando deserves another look and we believe this mould-breaking MPV is a real head-turner – especially when it’s made from tonnes of the nation’s most popular aqua-marine putty. Hopefully our launch will appeal to the inner-child in every parent and it will become a firm family favourite.”

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
