Anyway, the ABT Volkswagen Beetle Speedie (which I think is what it's called in full) is basically ABT's first step in tuning the all new, new Beetle (I just had to say it in this way as this IS the revamp of the first new Beetle). ABT have not finalized details of the engine mods and have just stated that the Speedie will have tweaks for its looks. It has a complete bodykit – front bumper/splitter, side skits, rear bumper/valance with twin tailpipes, eyelids for the front headlights and a small boot spoiler. It also has 19inch alloy wheels and comes with the requisite lowered sports suspension setup.
If any of you intend to add more power to the Beetle, it would have to wait. ABT states that they should have a finalized list of goodies for the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. But I suppose the Beetle will come with ABT's regular ECU and exhaust upgrades. It would be assumed that the base 1.2-litre TSI engine that is rated at around 105bhp would get ABT's 140bhp upgrade and the top of the range 2.0-litre TSI would make 240bhp from its standard 200bhp. All they need to do is optimise the tweaks to suit the new Beetle.
As stated by Volkswagen, the new 2012 Beetle is developed to make it more appealing to men and this ABT version is to make it even more butch. I still think it looks very feminine even in this setup. I would still stick to yearning for some other car unless some tuner comes up with a totally radical Porsche-like bodykit instead of this 'still very suitable for Barbie' looking Bug.
