After waiting for about 30 seconds, the green man appeared and I crossed the road. Upon reaching the other end of the road, the side of my eye caught a speeding bicycle approaching in my direction when other vehicles have stopped. Naturally, I slowed down my pace to avoid getting hurt. After the incident, I asked myself this question – Isn’t cyclists supposed to abide by traffic rules as well? This is very dangerous as some pedestrians may assume that they have the right of way and the cyclist might catch them off guard. Such an action also endangers the life of the cyclist himself. There have been fatal cases whereby the cyclist hits a pedestrian, lost balance and fell off the bicycle.
Cycling is a healthy and environmental friendly way of transport. Though relatively safer than a car or motorbike, cyclists should exercise discretion as well. Let’s make our roads safer for everybody.
