Be a safe cyclist

I was going to Bedok Central for lunch on a weekday. I parked my car at the open carpark next to Block 416 and made my walk to the traffic lights at Bedok North Street 1, opposite Bedok Community Library.

After waiting for about 30 seconds, the green man appeared and I crossed the road. Upon reaching the other end of the road, the side of my eye caught a speeding bicycle approaching in my direction when other vehicles have stopped. Naturally, I slowed down my pace to avoid getting hurt. After the incident, I asked myself this question Isnt cyclists supposed to abide by traffic rules as well? This is very dangerous as some pedestrians may assume that they have the right of way and the cyclist might catch them off guard. Such an action also endangers the life of the cyclist himself. There have been fatal cases whereby the cyclist hits a pedestrian, lost balance and fell off the bicycle.

Cycling is a healthy and environmental friendly way of transport. Though relatively safer than a car or motorbike, cyclists should exercise discretion as well. Lets make our roads safer for everybody.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.

Cyclists are supposed to abide by all the traffic rules, but who cares as there is NO enforcement!:(

I believe for every safer cyclist, there will be another not so safe cyclist. I am about to re-consider nagging cyclists to read the Highway Code before they go on to the roads.

There are more and more cyclist on the road these days... Either they are riding on the center of one of the lane , or just cutting out to the next lane without any hand signal as though they owned the whole road and assume that all motor vehicles is a MUST to look out for them and avoid them ...
Or just my luck to observed these type of cyclist behavior all the time....
