Mini beware. Audi's upcoming A1 has it's sight literally set on you! Audi’s new MINI competitor will feature a daytime running light system similar to those found on it's family members, such as the R8, A4, etc.

The “eyeshadow”-shaped lights seem to have been refined over its initial applications. From the video (as with the A8 too), it now looks like a single solid line instead of noticeable individual LEDs forming a shape. The new “solid line” design is achieved using fiber optics combined with LED lighting, which enables Audi to create the smooth uninterrupted line.

According to the senior designer for lighting systems at Audi, the design is meant to resemble the “wings of an eagle”. It is also meant to display “decisiveness and concentration” like an athlete all ready to go at the starting line with a sparkle in his eye. Sounds interesting. I particularly like the layout of the headlamp whereby the LED solid line seperates the projector headlight and the turning indicator light. The headlamp design is literally poetry in motion!

LED lighting system is more energy efficient than normal halogen bulb and provides better illumination as well.

The following video is a presentation on the headlamp design. Enjoy, and I hope it lights up your emotions [thumbsup]

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
