Volvo’s new image branding

For decades, Volvo has peddled its cars with an emphasis on their safety prowess, a reputation that still stands today. In recent years, Volvo has attempted to expand beyond their “safe” image by coming up with visually more adventurous designs such as the new S60, which the Swedish company calls it the “naughtiest Volvo ever”. Now, Volvo is taking a further step by announcing a new global brand strategy at a press conference in Beijing – “Designed Around You”.

Described as an important part of the brand's global revitalization plan, “Designed Around You” points out the direction of Volvo's future brand development, and the key word is human. "It summarizes our approach to understanding people, giving them a luxury experience that is a little more human-oriented--while at the same time linking firmly to our heritage of building safe and dependable cars," said Volvo marketing chief Richard Monturo. No other details were revealed about the new human-centric strategy, but Volvo did state that the new branding direction would be further demonstrated at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show taking place next month.

I’ve always been impressed by Volvo’s cabin layout, which is the epitome of Scandinavian simplicity. It is almost Zen-like but luxurious. Some websites even goes on to say that Volvo’s seats are quite possibly designed by orthopedic specialists. I am confident that Volvo will be able to take this human-oriented approach to even greater heights, and pose a legitimate threat to the Germans.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.

As a ex Volvo owner, I enjoyed the comfy seats, car phone and the safety of this tanker. The feel that I don't get from Benz and Bmw. After I scrapped the vehicle I was considering to get another Volvo for months till I dropped the idea due to high depreciation, lousy interior plastics which snap easily and expensive maintence by SM motors.
