2012 Aston Martin V12 Zagato in road legal form - Some thoughts

Aston Martin has announced the road legal version of the recently previewed Aston Martin V12 Zagato. It will be limited to around 150 units and is priced at £330,000 before taxes and customer options. The car will be previewed at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and is scheduled for production by the middle of 2012. Of course, any new production Zagato-Aston Martin collaboration is very welcome by Aston Martin and automobile enthusiasts alike but somehow, this car isn't that thrilling like the previous Zagato-Aston Martin DBs.

Some say that this 2012 V12 Zagato looks too Nissan GT-R and somewhat Nissan 370z on some angles, especially that C-pillar. But when you look at the photos side by side it is actually different from the two Nissans mentioned above. The Zagato is actually lower slung than either car and has a very upswept rear end like the final few TVR sports coupes.

But this isn't the actual problem. I have to say I am quite disappointed with the looks of this Aston Martin Zagato. It shows a lack of vision from its designers. That C-pillar is a good example as it somewhat apes the GT-R's C-pillar (but doesn't have that GT-R 'kink' right in the middle of it). The noted double bubble roof of all Zagato cars seems a tad bit tame. In fact, the car seems less radical with more 'Aston' instead of being more 'Zagato'. If you took a look at the DB7 Zagato pictured right below, you may get what I am trying to say.

So what's good about this car then? It IS an Aston Martin. It still looks aggressive. It also is a good half a million pounds cheaper than the upcoming Aston Martin One-77. And that rear end somehow makes the car look good. Even in full race trim below the V12 Zagato's rear end looks pretty good. Not epic like Jennifer Lopez's but like something a little more chiseled. Like Kate Beckinsale all dressed up in leather in the Underworld movie series. And yes, 510bhp and 570Nm of torque is also very good indeed.

The rear fenders look a lot like the 370z. Before I read the post and was just looking at the pictures I was thinking that it looked a lot like the z and the skyline lol
