The new Ford Fiesta ST Concept is powered by the familiar 1.6L EcoBoost 4 cylinder engine, which uses turbocharging and direct injection technologies to churn out 180PS and 240Nm of torque. These figures are similar to the Volvo S60 T4. The Polo GTI’s twincharger unit is able to generate 10Nm more. The power is sent to the front wheels of the Fiesta ST by means of a 6-speed manual transmission, which allow the new hot hatch to rip from 0 to 100 km/h in under 7 seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 220km/h. Performance should be similar to the Polo GTI, which completes the century sprint in 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 229km/h. Ford also says the Fiesta will be fuel efficient and have CO2 emissions of less than 140 g/km.
Let’s hope that the actual production model will offer the 6 speed powershift transmission as an option. This will widen the car’s appeal in markets such as Singapore.
