The new CC for the people

No, Singapore is not having a new Community Centre. The brand known as “The People’s car” has given its Passat CC a facelift after some four years after its launch and 270,000 sold worldwide. Along with the facelift, VW decides to call it the CC, rather than the Passat CC. Set to make its world debut at the upcoming 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, the revised CC packs some select visual scrub ups to bring it up to date with the German brand's more recent offerings.

The new model gets a redesigned front that sports a new chrome-trimmed grille, reshaped headlamps that incorporate a ring of LEDs and a reworked bumper Similar changes can be found at the back with new LED tail lamp, bumper and boot lid designs. A fresh choice of colors and alloy wheel options round off the exterior updates. The petrol engine range is carried over from the last model, which means you are looking at the familiar 160bhp 1.8L 4-cylinder turbo, 211 bhp 2.0L turbo and the range-topping 303bhp 3.6L V6.

The refreshed Volkswagen CC will be launched initially in Germany come February 2012, then gradually across Europe, America, Russia, China and other sales regions. It is a good marketing strategy for the CC to drop off the “Passat” name from its nomenclature to distance itself from the regular model, just like the Mercedes CLS is not named the “E-Class CC” or something to that effect.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
