The Audi is planning to include another sports coupe model into their line-up. Dubbed the R4, the two-seater sports car will be placed between their TT and R8 models. Much inspiration was taken from the e-tron Spyder (pictured below) concept which was showcased last year at the Paris Motor Show. It is clear that a roadster version will be included as well since it was inspired from another one.
The R4 will receive Audi’s trademark feature, the Quattro system and a hybrid powertrain can enhance the four wheel drive system. As there is no mechanical link between the engine driving the rear wheels and the electric motor powering the fronts, the car will get a clever torque vectoring system as seen on the e-tron Spyder. This drivetrain guarantees efficiency as the e-tron Spyder can run in front-drive electric-only mode at up to 37mph for around 30 miles.
What wasn’t revealed was whether the R4 will get a new platform of its own or will it sit on one of Audi’s existing ones. An Audi spokesperson mentioned that, with regards to this, they will make a decision on what is suitable for the car. Whatever it is, the R4 will give consumers more choices on two-seater sports cars and it will rival other manufacturers’ models, for example the Porsche 911.
