BMW’s Hari Raya Haji “surprise”

It was a wet Hari Raya Haji morning. As I opened the door to collect the Sunday Times, I was pleasantly surprised to find a special edition of “My Lifestyle My Drive” that came along with it. It was produced by the special projects unit, marketing division of Singapore Press Holdings. As I eagerly browsing through this special edition, a statement caught my eye which reads “BMW……has introduced a 318i with a 1.6-litre engine in Category A (cars under 1,600cc)”. I thought I was still dreamy and read it again to confirm what was written.

As far as I know, the existing BMW 318i carries a de-tuned version of the 2.0 litre inline-4 found in the 320i. I did a check on sgcarmart.com to verify my understanding. Even if the article is referring to the new F30, it is not correct too as the petrol options available at launch are the 328i and 335i which carries a 2.0 litre and 3.0 litre turbocharged engine respectively. A 1.6 litre turbocharged 318i is expected to be launched at a later date but at this moment, it is not available yet.

BMW fans who are heading to Performance Motors to get a 1.6L BMW 318i may be disappointed. Your wish may come true next year, but not now. Who knows, COE may have soften by then, if the European debt crisis deepens.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
