Volkswagen drops the 'Passat' from the 'CC'

The only thing worth saying about the Volkswagen Passat is that it is the German version of the Toyota Camry. In other words, the Passat is a dull medium sized sedan worthy of the ‘unclemobile’ moniker. That being said the Volkswagen Passat CC isn’t an unclemobile at all and that Volkswagen finally realizes that it has to distance the Passat CC from the staid, dull, boring, conservative, sleepy, straight-laced, run of the mill, ho-hum, colourless, drab, dreary, lackluster, lifeless, insipid and vapid Passat sedan by dropping the ‘Passat’ moniker from the newly facelifted version of the car that will be on sale early next year.

The new Volkswagen Passat CC will now be called Volkswagen CC. Simple and straightforward without any notion of being related to the as described Volkswagen Passat.

And while I’m at it, I’d also like to state that the facelifted Passat CC gets a newly styled radiator grille, bi-xenon headlight and bonnet. Optional LED daytime running lights are integrated into the headlight housings ala Audi. The car also has an extra air intake beneath its body-coloured bumper. All of the external changes highlight the fact that Volkswagen wants to bring the CC more upmarket than before. Moving into Audi territory eh?

I do like the Volkswagen CC. Distancing it from the Passat is a good thing. It is one of only two Volkswagen cars in the current line-up that I’d buy. And yes, it isn’t a Golf if you’re curious.
