But spy shots of an Elantra Coupe test car have surfaced in the World Wide Web. Somehow, it is rather confirmed that Hyundai is releasing a coupe version of the Elantra and judging from the pictures, we might see it real soon.
Powertrain wise, again rumoured reports have pointed out that the Coupe might get the same engine from the Hyundai Veloster. The all new Gamma 1.6 litre four cylinder engine delivers an output of 138bhp and mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Specific output from the 1.6 litre engine is pretty impressive, 86.3bhp per litre, better than any of its competitors.
The Veloster also gets a turbocharged engine, generating at 208bhp, and if the Elantra Coupe receives this upgrade, then it will put the model into the budget performance segment.
Hyundai will most definitely showcase this model at an upcoming auto exhibition in the States in the first half of next year, most probably at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2012. If that happens we will get to see it in the showrooms by the end of 2012.
It seems that Hyundai is going towards the direction of releasing great looking cars that people want to buy. And what are the Japanese automakers doing? Showcasing conceptual electric vehicles that will only interest tree huggers.
