Due to plummeting sales, the company laid off 300 of their staff in Blackpool and by 2007, the company was split into two companies and a parts distribution business. Since then, there have been several attempts to restart the car manufacturing business but none were fruitful.
When a recently launched FaceBook page appeared, there were rumours circulating that TVR is back in business.
We know that Nikolay Smolensky currently owns the TVR name and all of its assets. The TVR FaceBook page is using the new TVR logo and the page has included a link to a new TVR website.
The TVR website indicates that the site is under TVR GmbH, located in Vienna, Austria. TVR GmbH offers to upgrade existing TVR Griffith models to TVR Sagaris models. It will even build “new” Sagaris models from old Griffiths for aspiring TVR owners. TVR GmbH will also build new Sagaris, Tuscan Convertible, Tuscan Mk II, Cerbera, Chimera and Griffith models to individual customer specifications.
Strangely the owner Nikolay Smolensky is silent about this. Whether TVR GmbH has his approval or not, the last chapter of TVR’s history is still a long way from over.
