Mazda 6 “CC” in the making

Previewed by the Takeri concept that premiered at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show, the production version of the next Mazda6 will be launched in 2013 as a saloon and a hatchback and later on as a station wagon. On top of that, according to British publication What Car?, the Japanese carmaker is preparing a four-seat coupe of its mid-size family car.

Like the rest of the range, the Coupe will be built using the company’s new SkyActiv technologies, and be powered by frugal 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. It will also boost economy through stop-start systems and a new regenerative braking system dubbed i-Eloop, which claims to save a further 10% on fuel.

It is not common for a model to come in 4 body styles. Most cars would come in at most 3 body styles, namely the sedan, hatchback and estate. Come to think of it, the design of the current Mazda 6 hatchback looks pretty close to a four seat coupe as well. I believe it would be a challenging task for Mazda to distinguish the styling elements between the four-seat coupe and the hatchback. But who knows, we may be pleasantly surprised by the Zoom-Zoom spirit!

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
