Clearer vision for next generation Octavia

Skoda has recently released some new images of its Vision D Concept, a vehicle which is said to preview the next generation Octavia model. Revealed in Geneva earlier this year, Skoda is hoping the new design direction will broaden the brand's appeal with consumers.

In describing the new mid-size hatchback in a press statement, Skoda mentioned that “the car has a strong, sporty look which conveys a beautiful simplicity and a youthful and contemporary appearance." What is most interesting about this concept is that it’s actually a preview to future models of the automaker, in addition to the Octavia. The Skoda Vision D Concept stands on the basis of the Mission L concept, revealed in September, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The third generation of the Octavia model will have a near-production debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012. It will be followed by the production version later that year, with a final market launch set for early 2013.

The current Octavia was introduced in Singapore in the 2nd half of 2009. At the time of introduction, the Octavia came with high specification that includes goodies like Xenon headlights and front electric-powered seats (with memory function at driver’s side). As a result, its pricing wasn’t as competitive as a VW Jetta with the same power plant and eventually only a few Octavia found owners. Let’s hope that Harvest Automobiles will have a better sales strategy when the third generation arrives.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
