In the past few weeks, Lexus has teased has with a picture of their new concept vehicle. Lexus plans to showcase the concept vehicle at the upcoming 2012 Detroit Auto Show. Some have said that it could be the next Lexus SC or the next Lexus IS.
But judging from the newly leaked concept photos, I doubt it will be the next Lexus IS and more probably it could be the next Lexus SC or a totally new model.
From the pictures, we could see that it is a 2+2 coupe and Lexus has named it the LF-LC Concept vehicle. According to Lexus’ vice-president, the concept was designed from "a clean sheet of paper" and it was from the request of the Lexus headquarters in Japan and the car blends both high technology and organic shapes to connect the driver to the machine. The concept was designed at Lexus’ Calty studio in Newport Beach in California.
The leaked images you see here are from a video which was first picked up by the guys from Road and Track magazine and the video was almost immediately taken down. But before that could happen, the images were grabbed and soon the images gone viral.
The new concept vehicle suggests the future direction of Lexus with its sleek and aggressive lines. Some of us would notice that the grille used on the concept is rather similar to the upcoming 2013 Lexus GS. The overall shape of the car closely resembles the Lexus LF-A and this might suggest that the LF-LC could be a new high-end coupe that Lexus is considering.
A new model like this could prove important for Lexus. Firstly, they do not have a coupe model in their line-up (the Lexus SC has stopped production several years ago) and it also could serve as a competitor to rival models such as BMW’s 6-series and the recently released Mercedes Benz SL.
Obviously, Lexus has not revealed much about the car except for one thing. If you look closely at one of the images, you could see a hybrid badge at the side of the car. This suggests that the LF-LC might feature a hybrid powertrain.
The vehicle looks pretty much production ready but of course, much will be replaced (just like many other concept cars) before Lexus finally release the car and that might take a couple of years or so. The concept vehicle will be showcased next month at the Detroit Auto Show which will start on the 09 January 2012 and only then we will know more about the car.
