It looks like the India market has special likings for off-roaders. After Ford released the EcoSport Concept, Maruti Suzuki presented the XA Alpha concept at the New Dehli Auto Expo 2012. The baby crossover is based on the platform architecture of the familiar Swift model. Measuring 4 meters in length, the five door model is slightly longer than the Swift. The concept is designed in cooperation with Suzuki’s Indian partner, Maruti.

"The Concept XA is designed for a market of customers with a young urban lifestyle. This Concept showcases the unified R&D efforts of Suzuki and Maruti which will be a big asset for us in India in the future, “said Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki. Design-wise, the concept XA features a prominent grille, massive wheel arches and front fender vents. The dual exhaust system and 19-inch alloys add a touch of sportiness while the plastic body cladding gives it a rugged outlook. The roofline and windscreen appears to be inspired by Saab. However, I would prefer the steeply raked windscreen of the Ford EcoSport, which gives it a modern and dynamic profile.

Suzuki did not disclose any other information on the concept model but it could go into production in 2014. It is likely to be powered by a variety of engines including a K-Series petrol (1.0L-1.6L) and a 1.3L DDIS diesel, featuring common rail direct injection and multiple injection technologies.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
