With the recent release of the Peugeot 208 hatchback and the conceptual 208 GTi, it is clear that Peugeot is gearing up for a busy outing at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. Other than the 208 GTi Concept, Peugeot will also showcase another concept car based on the 208 and it is known as the Peugeot 208 XY Concept.
Both car are based on the 208 and the French automaker has expressed both cars for different audiences. While the GTi is meant for those who missed the hot-hatch legend, the 208 XY is meant for “urbanites”. The 208 XY Concept main highlight is the Pulsion paint work which Peugeot has mentioned that it changes colours on how and where you look at it, something like a chameleon effect. This ability is due to an exclusive method of precise paint application which involves 16 layers of paint and varnish.
The car is powered by a 1.6 litre e-HDI turbo diesel engine which generates around 115bhp and the engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Exclusively designed 18 inch wheels sit on all four corners of the car and they are nicely tucked under flared wheel arches. With all the nice touches that Peugeot has included for the exterior, the interior gets a similar treatment.
A flowing purplish leather dashboard trim highlights the front seating area and much of the interior is wrapped in a dark grey leather but the panoramic roof is trimmed in black leather instead. The panoramic roof provides a natural lighting and together with the white ambient lighting; the finishing touches to the interior add a "gunmetal" aesthetic treatment to the door crossbars, steering wheel decorations and vent trims.
More details will be revealed when Peugeot unveils the car in Geneva next month.
