Kia K9 looks too much like a BMW 7series - Has Kia run out of ideas?

Oh no, it looks like Peter Schreyer's team over at Kia has run into a styling quandary. The newly released official pictures of the Mercedes Benz S-class / BMW 7 series sized Kia K9 tells me that he has suddenly decided to loose his Audi roots and design something that looks like a BMW 7 series from the era where I (and a whole lot of BMW critics) hate the Chris Bangle era.

The flagship Kia K9, is mainly for the Korean market and may be launched at other markets under a different name. Imagine calling it the Kia 'Canine'. This follows suit with the new Optima as it is badged K5 in Korea. It is also Kia's first rear drive saloon and it may be the first Kia that is rumoured to have a V8 engine under its very BMW-like bonnet. And now for more comparisons with the E65 7 series. It looks so very much like the car pictured above doesn't it?

So the Kia K9 or Kia Canine looks so much like BMW's earlier 7 series with some of the latest 5series' styling cues. What's going on Kia? Have you run out of ideas after the handsome Forte, futuristic Sportage and the very shark-like Optima K5? I actually think that they have run out of steam. Look at the Canine, it looks like it has the F10 BMW 5series' lights front and rear, the slab sided sides of the E65 7 series and a more pronounced Hoffmeister kink at the C-pillar. Or you could actually take an E65 7series and photoshop it with sharper lights at both ends and a slightly more drooping bootline than before. With a little editing, you get the Kia Canine. Or can we just call it the BMW EK65.9?

It isn't that the Kia Canine is ugly, it is just so similar to what that was built earlier by BMW. And that's just doggone disappointing in my opinion.
