Don't worry, the mythological creature from the Himalayan region is not making an appearance in Singapore. Rather, the Yei is Skoda's first off-roader, combining the strength of a 4x4 with the practicality of a family hatchback.

At 4.2 metres, the Yeti is virtually the same length as the Roomster MPV. It’s roomy inside, while the Varioflex rear seats tilt back and forwards, fold down or can be removed to free up a van-like 1,760-litre load area. The petrol version of the Yeti is powered by VW group's 1.2TSI unit, producing 105 bhp. As expected, the 7 speed twin-clutch gearbox is the chosen partner of the TSI engine. Also available is a 160bhp 1.8TSI version. However, Singapore should only see the 1.2 TSI option being offered.
The Yeti is rumoured to make a debut locally some time in April 2010. Its boxy styling may not appeal to all but one can be assured that the car will be well put together like the recent Skodas. Overseas review reveals that the Yeti feels extremely sure-footed while the suspension provides a beautiful supple ride. How will the Yeti perform in our tropical climate ? I guess we will find out soon.
