The 2013 Subaru Legacy and Subaru Outback

The Subaru Legacy and the Legacy on stilts, the Outback has been revised for the 2013 model year. Subaru has slightly 'improved' the looks of the quirky looking large sedan and wagon by changing the front end of the cars. Both cars feature new headlights, grille and bumper. The new look seems to suit the Legacy better with its Audi-esque bumper (but still slightly awkward) but the Subaru Outback still looks dumpy and awkward to me.

Other styling changes are limited to the interior the cars will feature new upholstery, a different audio system and a different wood grain option. Some mid-range variants also gain rear air vents and a nicer looking instrument cluster with a 3.5inch display screen. Subaru has also improved the Legacy and Outback on the engine front too.

The 2013 Subaru Legacy and Outback will get an improved 2.5liter Flat-4 that makes 173hp and 236Nm torque that runs through either a 6 speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. The top of the line Legacy and Outback which is sold over in the United States will have its 3.6liter Flat-6 that develops 256hp. I always think that this model is a 911 Carrera 4 with the engine in the swapping ends.

Subaru also claims that the 2013 cars will gain structural enchancements to the chassis, steering and suspension that will improve the handling and ride of the cars. No details were explained in detail but I gather that this would mean tweaks to the sub-frame, suspension bushes and recalibrating the steering for more feel.

The 2013 Subaru Legacy and Outback will make its debut at the upcoming 2013 New York Motor Show and the only thing I can add is the fact that I still think that the Legacy/Outback has wheel arches that doesn't really suit the rest of the car. It feels tacked on instead of being a part of the car. Maybe this is the reason the car has awkward looks. Maybe this is why we don't see that many Legacies running around this region too.
