When the Mazda6 nomenclature was adopted in 2002, it heralds a new design language which Mazda calls "Zoom Zoom". 10 years later and into its third iteration, Mazda is going to rewrite the company’s design language again with its all new Mazda6 which has been officially confirmed to be unveiled in September’s 2012 Paris Motor Show. This announcement was made at the New York Motor Show by Mazda North American Operations.
As most followers of MyAutoblog would have known, the new Mazda6’s styling will be heavily influenced by the Takeri concept. The concept was displayed at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show as well as this year’s Geneva Motor Show and most recently, at the New York Motor Show. Mazda likes to talk about the Takeri's new design language that they call 'Kodo - Soul of Motion'.
In spite of being labeled as a 2014 model year, the new Mazda6 will go on sale during Q1 of 2013 and will feature the SkyActiv 2.0-litre petrol engine that is mated to either a 6-speed auto or 6-speed manual transmission. The motor should develop about 162bhp with 210Nm of torque. Mazda commented that it is aiming to be the class leader in fuel economy.
10 years on, the original Mazda 6 may have aged a bit but certainly does not look like it was designed a decade ago. As the Chinese saying goes "虎父无犬子"(literally meaning a tiger father has no canine sons), I am sure the all new Mazda 6 will stand out among the current generation of bland-looking Japanese sedans.
