S.H.I.E.L.D. the international peacekeeping agency of the Marvel Universe have its agents drive various Acura vehicles, including the MDX, ZDX, TL and the redesigned 2013 RDX. To top it off an Acura convertible sports car for Tony Stark (aka Ironman) was created specifically for the film whose first official photo was recently released.
Initial spy shots taken at a movie production site hinted the convertible sports car to be a potential replacement of the NSX Acura. Acura Brand Manager Susie Rossick, however commented the Acura concept convertible to be a spinoff, and not for production.
The Ohio-built all-wheel-drive hybrid NSX supercar is not expected in showrooms until sometime around 2015, and even if a convertible version gets a green light, we probably won't see it until 2016.
At the New York Auto Show, Acura displayed its militarized S.H.I.E.L.D. edition MDX finished in a stealthy matte black paint and fitted with all sorts of goods such as the large front bull bar, protective black cladding all around and special wheels.
As the exclusive automotive sponsor of the world premiere to The Avengers on April 11 in Hollywood, a surprise special stunt is planned to make an impactful, red-carpet entrance. A fleet of Acura vehicles will also be used to transport the stars during the premiere.
