This ultra-rare 1997 Gulf Team Davidoff McLaren F1 GTR 'Longtail' race car will grace the auction block at Bonhams’ annual Quail Lodge Sale that eventually leads up Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance to be held this August this year.

It was previously sold to someone with extremely deep pockets in Japan, but looks like that gentleman is selling it off once again. This particular F1 GTR has chassis number ‘028R’ and is the last one of its kind to be built by McLaren.

The car’s current design is inspired by successful racers, that wore the Gulf Oil's iconic pale-blue and orange livery. Its longer rear wing section is designed to increase grip over the rear wheels. Built for racing, the F1 GTR competed in the BPR Global GT Series, now known as the FIA GT Championship. The F1 GTR weighed only 2,000 pounds but generated more than 600hp from its modified 6.0-litre racing specific 60-degree V12 engine.

The Bonhams’ Quail Lodge Sale is to take place from August 16-17 in Carmel, California, so if you are interested book your flight tickets now.
