Very soon, Fiat will be revealing the new Viaggio sedan at the Auto China 2012 held in Beijing. Before that, here are some new photos of the compact sedan to tantalize the customers. The car's name, ‘Viaggio’ is Italian for ‘voyage’ or ‘journey’. But to make it easy for the Chinese folks, Fiat has given the sedan a Chinese name, 'Fei Xiang', which means 'flying' in English.

The Viaggio Sedan is said to be a rebadged Dodge Dart. However, it is more appropriate to call the Viaggio a re-styled Dart. As we can see from the photos, the Viaggio has a pair of rounder headlights and gets a chrome grille. Even the fog light housings are chromed. At the rear, while the Dart gets an LED stripe across the boot, the Viaggio’s rear lights are more conventional. Overall, the Viaggio has a more luxurious look while the Dart looks sharper and sportier.

No interior image of the Viaggio is available at the moment but I reckon that it should follow closely to the layout of the Dart. Given that the Dart has been named as one of winners of Ward’s Auto 10 best interiors of 2012, the Viaggio’s cabin should not disappoint.

The Viaggio is the first vehicle that Fiat will produce in China with its local partner, Guangzhou Automobile Group. The Dart will go on sale in China in the third quarter of this year. The Chinese buyers will be offered with a choice of two turbocharged petrol engines, the 1.4-litre T-Jet in either 120hp or 150hp settings. They are mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or Fiat’s 6-speed dual clutch gearbox.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
