Apparently, the owner of the Ferrari Enzo is believed to be a British citizen who bought the car and then fled the country 20 months ago when he/she could not afford to pay the loan and traffic fines. Being in debt in the country is a crime and according to an official in Dubai’s traffic department, this particular Ferrari Enzo is on the Interpol’s wanted list and has accumulated too many parking tickets after it was left in a parking lot.
The local authorities have the right to auction off any vehicles which are abandoned for over six months (becomes a property of the state) unless a title deed is produced and any outstanding fines are cleared. It is said that the owner of the Ferrari Enzo was involved in a serious crime. Many other expats have done similarly too; getting involved in some crime or being in debt and then they will flee the country, leaving their prized possessions behind.
There will be a total of 129 vehicles that will be auctioned off and 23 are luxury cars. Some of them carry fines of around US$27,000. The auction takes place on 25/04/12 in Al Quasis, Dubai.
