The UKís Office revealed an unemployment rate of 8.3%. Reflecting the current state of the UK job market, over 35,000 candidates have applied for 1,000 new jobs at Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover's Halewood factory near Liverpool.

Over 6,000 registrations were received within 24 hours of the new jobs being announced by JLR in March and after just one week, that figure ballooned to 20,000 online registrations. JLR HR Director, Des Thurlby said:

"We are very pleased with the quality of candidates applying for these new roles and more than 100 applicants have already started with us. The scale of the response to our recruitment campaign reflects JLRís growing reputation as an employer of choice in the north west."

These additional headcounts will be deployed as engineers, supervisors and operators. These new employees will increase the workforce at Halewood to almost 4,500, which is three times the amount as compared to three years ago. The increase in workforce is to cope with the demand for the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Freelander.

When the F-type goes into production in the middle 2013, I am pretty confident that the demand will be high, given its stunning good looks. Perhaps JLR will conduct another round of mass recruitment then.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
