Great Wall of China vandalized by Ferrari

By SYF77 on 13 May 2012

Ferrari created a special edition 458 Italia to mark the year of the dragon. The local Prancing Horse dealer at Nanjing rented a section of the Great Wall of China at Nanjing for the supercar’s launch. Unfortunately, the event got cancelled as an employee of the dealership did something that may have got himself beheaded in ancient China.

The car was lifted by crane onto the venue the night before the event. Apparently, this employee started the engine and performed unauthorized donut spins that left tread marks on the ground. The video clip showed workers attempting to remove the marks with a mop.

The incident has upset the Chinese authorities. Ferrari was quick to issue an apology for the incident in mandarin on its blog, “Ferrari has always respected Chinese traditional culture and values the protection of historical and cultural relics.”

Ferrari also expressed regret over the incident. The incident also broke the rice bowl of Mr Yang Houyin, who is in charge of the agency managing the city wall. He was removed from his position due to “incompetent supervision and management,” according to a Yangtse Evening Post report.

Performing donut on The Great Wall of China is akin to vandalising a piece of antique. The Nanjing City Wall is 600 years old and is the oldest intact city wall in China today.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
