There is no doubt that the name Nismo is synonymous with Nissan’s performance cars (including previously offering a tuning package for the March).

The company offers a wide range of aftermarket performance products for Nissan cars such as bodykits, handling parts and engine parts.

Now, Nissan aims to expand its Nismo performance brand by offering an RS options package that further enhances Nismo cars (for example, the Nismo 370Z and the Juke Nismo). For those who are not aware, the name Nismo was taken from Nissan Motorsports International Co. Ltd.

In an interview with Inside Line; Andy Palmer, executive vice president of Nissan and head of Global Product Planning mentioned that an expanded line of Nismo products are in development which include more extensive engine upgrades.

“There will be Nismo packages for the suspension and the Nismo RS packages that will include engine tunes,” said Palmer.

The Nissan 370Z Nismo already has some minor engine upgrades that add an extra 18hp to the standard 3.7-litre V6 engine (final output of 350hp from the stock 332hp).

Palmer did not exactly say how the RS package is like or whether will it be more than just a suspension or parts upgrade. It is also not known which Nissan cars would benefit from the RS package.

The addition of the RS package is a target to promote the Nismo brand more widely and Palmer also mentioned that the brand is not well known as it should be, given its success in the racing circuits. Nismo won every race it competed in for the year 2011.
