The Spanish member of the Volkswagen Group is planning to expand its dealership network in China to offset the poor European sales figures. The Spaniards are introducing the Leon Cupra first but other models are expected to follow rapidly.
“SEAT has arrived in China. We are launching our success story on this market with our state-of-the-art, attractive city showrooms and with the SEAT Leon as the entry model. Our unique combination of design and performance, of technology and precision secures for us an enormous potential within this key marketplace," said James Muir, chairman of SEAT.
SEAT currently has 8 dealerships in China. The automaker plans to increase the number to 15 by the end of 2012, with showrooms planned in Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanning, Xi’an, Xiamen, Beijing and Shanghai.
Powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine, the 237bhp Leon Cupra sprints to 100km/h in 6.4 seconds. The car shares its platform with the Volkswagen Golf. The Leon Cupra has one immediate claim to fame – it’s the most powerful roadgoing car SEAT has ever produced. The Cupra is a handsome little hatch. It is a pity that Singaporeans don’t get to enjoy it here.
