Some of us may have already known about a Supra successor that is slated for a release roughly in 2015. Rumored reports have mentioned that the car will be based on the Gazoo Racing Sports Hybrid Concept. But, latest reports have stated that Toyota is planning on a three tier sports model line-up; with a new sports car sitting below the 86 and the Supra successor above it.
Toyota’s recent sales are at a record high and the company’s president, Akio Toyoda, has mentioned previously about his passion for driving and was the person responsible for the development of the Toyota 86. And his passion will not just stop there as he plans for more Toyota-branded sports cars.
Tetsuya Tada, the chief engineer for the 86, has stated that there is room for a three tier sports car line-up. A new compact-sized sports car could find a nice position below the 86 and a leading performance one sitting on top. Rumors of the Supra successor have been going around for quite some time but it is unlikely for Toyota to resurrect the Supra name.
As mentioned above, Toyota is on track with the release of the Supra successor in 2015. As for the sub-86 sports model, the company is tight lipped about it. But with the success and attention given to the Toyota 86, it looks like this three-tier sports model line-up will happen.
