The new Thai facility in the Ayutthaya province will assemble the Fit hybrids from Complete Knock Down kits (CKDs) shipped over from Japan. The 1.3-litre engine and the hybrid drivetrain, which the car shares with the Insight, will also be shipped from Japan.
The company decided to assemble the vehicle in Thailand, its key production site in Asia, with an eye on exporting it to neighboring nations. Therefore, there is a good chance that we will be getting the car in Singapore in the near future.
In the Honda Insight, the 1.3-litre hybrid drivetrain produces 88bhp and is coupled with a CVT transmission. The century sprint is completed in a leisurely 12.4 seconds. Since the Insight is larger than the Fit, we can expect the hybrid Fit to be slightly zipper than the Insight. The hybrid Fit’s main rival would be the Toyota Prius C hybrid. The baby Prius has a 1.5-litre petrol engine and is rated at 100bhp.
