The management at McLaren could have felt embarrassed by the fact that their supercar, the MP4-12C, got trashed by the Lamborghini Aventador in episode 8 of Head-to-Head. Therefore, for the 2013 model year, the British race car maker decides to give the car a series of improvement, with the most significant upgrade being a 25bhp power bump. This brings the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8's total output to a screaming 616bhp, but still fall behind the Aventadorís 690bhp.

The power enhancement is achieved by reprogramming the V8's ECU, while other updates include a new transmission programming and the addition of a software that allows drivers to select how much engine noise is piped into the cabin. McLaren has also completed the development of a program that will allow the infotainment system to support both navigation and Bluetooth functions.

For those few wealthy Singaporeans who have already bought their MP4-12C, there is no need to feel shortchanged. McLaren will retrofit all of these new features to 2012 models free of charge. The only improvement that will not be available to current owners of the car is a new optional suspension lift mode that can raise both ends of the car at low speeds to help navigate through speed bumps or parking ramps. The 2013 model will officially go on sale this September.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
