Lately, Mini is moving forward with the announcement of a commercial model, the Mini Clubvan. And now it seems that the Mini model range is expanding even further. Mini has announced that they will release the Mini Paceman next year.

The announcement was made during an annual road trip event which is known as the “Mini Takes the States” event. The 3903-mile road trip which starts from New York and ends at Los Angeles began on Independence Day.

Mini has confirmed that the Mini Paceman is actually the coupe version of the Countryman. Initially rumoured to be called the Countryman Coupe, Mini confirmed that it would be using the Paceman name that graced the 2011 Detroit auto show concept car.

Mini’s senior brand manager, Kay Segler commented that The Mini Paceman is the world’s first sports activity coupe in the premium compact segment. The car combines a clear appetite for extravagance and infectious driving fun in a style that only a Mini could pull off with such authenticity.

The three-door Mini Paceman will be the seventh model coming from the Mini, joining the Cooper, Coupe, Roadster, Countryman, Clubman, and Cooper convertible. It is likely that the Paceman will get power from the same 121bhp four-cylinder or an 181bhp turbocharged engine as the Countryman, with all wheel drive available with the turbocharged model. Either a six speed automatic or a six speed manual transmission will also likely be available, as they’re offered in every other Mini model.

Mini says the Paceman will be officially unveiled in a few months and will be joining the brand as a 2013 model year.
