But this might change soon. A traffic management technology company, Traficon from Belgium, has stated that they will be able to eliminate the above mentioned dilemma soon. The company will make use of radars which will be able to sense when a vehicle may need more time to get through a yellow light as it turns red, keeping all other traffic halted until the last car makes it through the light.
This technology was recently announced at the annual International Municipal Signal Association conference in Orlando, Florida. The technology also does the same when paired with technology that can read bike-lane traffic. Called VIP Bike, the technology gives the two-wheelers the right of way so they don’t end up getting hit by a car.
The technology is part of a movement called intelligent transit systems (ITS) that uses radars, computer algorithms, and Wi-Fi networks to better control the flow of traffic, the TrafiRadar system will also help make driving safer.
The TrafiRadar system might be able to make driving a safer experience but I feel that road traffic education plays an important part in road safety. And another thing, I strongly believe that this technology will not be landing on the shores of our island.
