The new Continental GT Speed is the fastest road-car to exit Bentley's factory in Crewe, U.K. and if you have the cash, place your orders with deliveries expected to start from October 2012.
Bentley has released the full technical details for its new performance flagship, the Continental GT Speed that reaches a top speed of 330 km/h with power sent to all four wheels (60:40; rear biased). It will debut at the upcoming Moscow Motor Show on the 29th August. Pretty apt location for a luxury car.
The GT Speed is powered by a monstrous 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12, developing 616bhp and 800Nm of torque. All the power is mated to a new ZF eight-speed close-ratio automatic transmission featuring “Block Shifting” technology, capable of shifting directly from (for example) 8th gear to 4th gear for instantaneous response and thunderous acceleration.
It hits 100 km/h in a brisk 4.2s, and takes only 9.0s to hit 160 km/h from stationary. The updated W12 engines features an energy recuperation system to deliver a 12% improvement in fuel economy and CO2 emissions and the latest ME17 engine management system that can perform 180 million individual calculations per second.
The chassis is enhanced with up-rated springs, anti-roll bars and bushes. The ride height is also lowered by 10mm with the damping and electrical systems re-tuned.
The GT Speed gets its own design cues with exclusive 21-inch, ten-spoke alloys, dark-tint radiator shell and lower bumper grilles and ‘rifled’ exhaust tailpipes. The cabin is finished with the Mulliner Driving Specification, featuring quilted, leather and polished metal details.
The exhaust system has been developed from the Continental Supersports Ice Speed Record car, to produce a sportier, more intense sound during acceleration.
Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive system provides grip and traction for all conditions. The Continentals fluid design is inspired by the original 1950s R-Type Continental that brings the feel of a truly coachbuilt car to the Continental family.
The 8-inch touchscreen panel in the cabin is attached to a 30GB memory with satellite navigation bookmarking “Personal Points of Interest”. This allows user to save places of their choosing (e.g. a specific restaurant) into the system.
An eight-speaker Naim sound system is offered as standard. These flat-panel speakers provide great clarity across a wide frequency range.
Music can be played and controlled directly from an iPod, six-disc CD changer, SD card reader or the car’s HDD, which can store up to 15GB of music. DAB digital radio is also available in regions where the infrastructure supports it.
