If you have friends or relatives in the US driving a 1994 version of the Honda Accord, you may wish to remind them to keep a close eye on their ride. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) released a report saying that this particular model year of Honda’s mid-sized sedan was the most stolen vehicle in the United States in 2011.

Although I personally liked the styling of the 1994 Accord when it was launched, it is still a model that has been designed some 18 years ago. Why are thieves so fond of an old machine?

The answer to the question above is that the Honda Accord from that particular year lacks the security features found on later models and hence become a thief’s favourite target.
The complete list of models that made it to the top 10 list is as follow:

1. 1994 Honda Accord
2. 1998 Honda Civic
3. 2006 Ford F-150 Pickup
4. 1991Toyota Camry
5. 2000 Dodge Caravan
6. 1994 Acura Integra
7. 1999 Chevy Pickup
8. 2004 Dodge Pickup
9. 2002 Ford Explorer
10. 1994 Nissan Sentra

The 1994 Honda Accord scored a “hat trick” by securing the top spot in NICB’s “Hot Wheels” report consecutively in 2009,2010 and 2011.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
