After the launch of the Skoda Rapid, The Czech car maker is ready to reveal the next generation Octavia sedan. At the Moscow Motor Show, Volkswagen Group officials have confirmed that the all new Octavia will be revealed this November before it goes on sale in the beginning of 2013. It will be the fourth VW Group model to be underpinned by its new modular MQB platform following the Audi A3, Seat Leon and upcoming VW Golf Mk7.
Due to the new MQB underpinnings, the new Octavia is expected to be lighter than its predecessor although it will grow to around 4.8 meters long. This is to distinguish the Octavia from the new Rapid sedan in Skoda’s lineup.
The engine options are expected to be similar to the new Golf. Hence, the new car will likely receive the 1.6-liter TDI and the 1.4-liter TSI gasoline unit with cylinder deactivation technology. The top-of-the range VRS version will be using a variant of the EA888 turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine destined for the new VW Golf.
Skoda has positioned the new model to be more upmarket but the base version will retain the nameplate’s attributes of offering more space for less money than competition.
With the new Octavia not too far in the horizon, perhaps we can expect Skoda Singapore to hold more “Blackout Sale” in the coming months to empty existing stocks.
