Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has released a body kit for the facelifted Lexus LS 460 sedan in Japan. The upgrades over the standard model include a diffuser, front splitter, side skirts, forged aluminum wheels, and sport mufflers.

The top-of-the-range Lexus LS saloon is a stately and comfortable luxury sedan. The question is – how many buyers of the LS sedan would go for the body kit?

I would imagine a typical buyer of the Lexus LS 460 is someone in his late 30s at least, a high-flying professional or a successful business man. He would have left the 'boy racer' mindset far behind and would not be interested in dressing up his LS as loud as the cars he owned in the past.

The LS sedan in its original form is an elegant sedan with nicely-integrated trapezoidal dual exhausts. The quad exhaust pipes sticking out from the bumper in the TRD version looked rather out of place. In Chinese, there is a proverb which means “drawing a snake with feet”. In my opinion, this proverb best describes the TRD-ed Lexus LS. Well, perhaps it is an acquired taste.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.

Compare this with an S class AMG

every heard of AMG? just that TRD never really do much tuning or upgrading of actual performance. Mostly only asthetics so far but aggression does not translate to boy racers. Just look at the AMG, M power and Audi Rs4s.

Lexus is going in the right direction i feel, makes them a more exciting and varied brand.
