At the recent Paris Motor Show, Honda CEO, Takanobu Ito, confirmed that the Civic Type R would go on sale in 2015 but did not give out any further details. Although there are about two more years before the arrival of the 2015 Civic Type R (CTR), rumors are starting to emerge with regards to the boy racer’s dream machine.
According to UK motoring magazine, Auto Express, the next generation CTR will be powered by a 1.6L turbocharged, direct injected engine which pumps out no less than 250 bhp. The new engine will undergo testing in Honda’s entry in the 2013 World Touring Car championship. In addition, the new power plant could be mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission which is currently under development.
According to Mr Ito, Honda’s goal for the new CTR is to make it the quickest front-wheel-drive vehicle to ever complete the Nurburgring circuit. The current record holder is the Renaultsport Megane 265 Trophy with a timing of 8 minutes and 8 seconds (A very auspicious time !). To achieve the goal, Honda plans to keep the weight of the hot hatch to be below 1,200 kg.
Like the Ford Focus ST, Honda has no plans to introduce a 3 door version of the CTR.
