To train the best athletes, you have got to have the best training facilities. Hyundai thinks likewise and plans to build a 3,050 square metres test centre at the Nurburgring track in Germany to hone its future models' driving dynamics, durability and reliability. The track is known to be 10 times more demanding than a normal road.

Construction of the new facility will cost the Korean giant a cool 5.5 million (S$8.9 million). It will be used by engineers at its existing R&D center in Russelsheim.

On the test centre, Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, commented, "The new Hyundai test centre at Nurburgring is an expression of our intention to focus on improving the customer experience of our vehicles, such as ride and handling an important consideration for European drivers. The new centre represents a significant investment, and one we expect will significantly contribute to enhancing the perception of the Hyundai brand and our key competitive competence in Europe."

The Nurburgring is the testing ground for vehicles ranging from supercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador to luxury saloons such as the Cadillac ATS.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
