Hyundai Motor Company Australia has removed the i45 (above) from its lineup and replaced it with the European-styled i40 sedan.

The i40 features Hyundai's 'fluidic sculpture' design language, and was launched in Europe initially as an estate with a saloon due later in 2011.

Hyundai Australia’s decision has to do with demand and supply more than anything else. Due to the increased global demand for the i45, Australia struggled to secure sufficient quantity to meet the demand Down Under. The i40 will have a higher sticker price than the i45.

Measuring 4,770mm (L) x 1,815mm (B) x 1,470mm (H), the i40 sedan is 50mm shorter and 20mm narrower than the i45. On the other hand, the i40 has more youthful appearance with a front fascia that is similar to the Elantra.

According to a review by Sgcarmart on the i40 wagon, the fit and finish plus all-round material quality feels more like a car assembled in Europe. Hence, is it worth to cough out more for the i40? The answer would depend on what the buyer values more.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
