Audi reveals the S3 Sportback with improved powertrain and carrying lesser weight

With 295bhp and 380Nm of torque under its taps, the all-new five-door Audi S3 Sportback features a longer wheelbase than both its predecessor and the three-door S3 variant on top of a decent fuel economy of 17km/L. Powered by a new 2.0-litre engine linked to the S tronic twin-clutch transmission, the Audi S3 Sportback will make its formal debut in Geneva next month

When petrol is applied, the S3 Sportback delivers a 5.0-second century sprint before hitting a limited top speed of 249km/h. The exhaust system also includes a sound flap that opens at certain engine speed ranges for a intimidating soundtrack.

The versatile modular transverse platform (MQB) underpins the new S3 Sportback. and is almost 70kg lighter thanks to weight savings in areas like the powertrain and use of ultra-high-strength steel passenger cell and light aluminium wings and bonnet. Like other ĎSí models - the S3 Sportback is equipped with quattro permanent all-wheel drive featuring redesigned multi-plate clutch. The brake callipers are finished in black and branded with S3 logos, and can be coloured red if preferred.

Aesthetically, the aluminium-look exterior mirrors and the bulging side sills are hard to miss, while the platinum grey diffuser houses the exhaust systemís four oval tailpipes, which feature chrome tips. A large roof spoiler generates downforce on the rear axle. S badges adorn the rear and the single-frame grille.

The luggage compartment offers 380 Litres of capacity which be expanded to a generous 1,220 Litres with the seats folded down. The interior of the S3 Sportback is in black with contrasting stitching. S logos adorn the door sill strips, the steering wheel, the gear/selector lever knob and the instruments.
