It is no longer a secret that the Toyota Vios has often been converted into a taxi. At least, this is what is happening in Indonesia – and perhaps in some other countries as well – since Toyota first launched this sedan model. However, its successor, the 2013 Toyota Vios which recently debuted in the 2013 Bangkok Motor Show, Thailand, isn't quite likely to receive the same fate.
It's visible from the design and features that the new Vios has somehow leveled up in terms of class. Just take a look at its projector headlamps. Yes, you heard it right! The Vios now features projector headlamps in place of the traditional reflector-backed light bulbs. This definitely gives the car a more luxurious look than that of its predecessor.
Besides looking luxurious, the car also looks sporty, thanks to the application of a V-shaped front grille combined with a largely sized trapezoidal air intake below it. The front fog lamps also complete the impressive look of the car while the turn indicators on the side mirrors add to the luxury of it.
Yet, if the front exterior doesn't look attractive enough to you, the rear combination taillights may as well attract you. The design of the rear taillights somehow resembles that of the Toyota Camry. In addition to that, there's also a chrome bar that looks as if it extends from the left to the right taillights, giving the 2013 Toyota Vios a unique rear fascia. Toyota has also retained the rear fog lamps for this model.
In the cabin, the car features a three-spoke steering wheel and a sporty instrument panel equipped with trip computer. In addition to that, the dashboard design looks quite futuristic, too, with the blue illumination on the centre console and Multi Information Display (MID) panel. Unfortunately, the material looks kind of cheap.
The 2013 Toyota Vios offers a power output of 109bhp at 6,000rpm with a torque of 141Nm at 4,200rpm. This power and torque come from a 1.5-litre 1NZ-FE VVT-i engine. You can choose between a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission.
It seems that the 2013 Toyota Vios isn't likely to come with the price range of its predecessor which lies somewhere from around Rp125-160 million when it finally lands in Indonesia.
