Two equally iconic Italians to hit the auction block at Silverstone

Switzerland motorsport specialists Carrosserie Saurer are no strangers to customised vehicles and have created exceptional examples of automotive styling and engineering. One such example is this 1975 Maserati Merak by Saurer that will be on auction on the 17th May at the Silverstone Auctions hosted International Trophy Sale.

Life for this trident badged Italian began like any other Merak, though greater things were destined for this particular model in 1984 at the hands of Swiss-based Saurer.

The redesigned bodywork was formed to create what Paul Saurer considered to be his ideal 'Hot Merak' and no doubt the end result exceeded expectations. The bespoke 1975 Maserati has all its original running gear retained and is estimated to be offered at between £35,000 (S$66,852) to £40,000 (S$76,403).

The auction vehicle will be available for view in the ultra-modern Wing building at Silverstone race track before the car auction commences at 2:00pm on Friday, 17th May.

On top of the unique Maserati, a 1964 Ferrari 330GT Series 1, once described by Enzo Ferrari himself as his favourite model, will be on auction by Silverstone Auctions. With elegance mated with power, it's not hard to see why this particular model caught Enzo's eye on top of his heart.

Estimated at between £95,000 (S$181,437) to £110,000 (S$210,085), the car will be offered at the modern wing building at Silverstone race track - similar to the Maserati. Bidders and admirers alike will be able to view the car in the metal before the auction starts, paying close attention to the Ferrari Blu Pozzi paintwork, shimmering chrome work or simply the original Borrani wheels.

The left hand model was imported into the U.K. from across the pond in 2002 by its then owner. More recently in its current ownership it has benefited from a strip and re-spray.

Other Ferrari's also at the Silverstone Auctions sale include:
  • 1986 Testarossa (my personal favourite besides the F40),
  • 1974 Dino 308 GT4,
  • 1994 348 Spider and a
  • 1988 412i.
