Waiting on the Super Cop Car

By JulesK on 07 Apr 2010

Attached Image Carbon Motors Corporation plans to deliver its first police car in 2013 – assuming the company's request for a $310 million loan from the U.S. Department of Energy is approved. Powered by a BMW twin-turbo inline-six diesel engine, Carbon Motors is diving into the obscure vehicle segment with the goal of delivering thousands of its "E7" police cars across the country.

Attached Image Carbon Motors was formed to develop and produce the E7, the first purpose-built police car ever made. The E7 will be sold directly to law enforcement agencies and not through a dealer network. It was designed for the main purpose of ensuring that the vehicle will be most effective to police.

Unlike usual police cars which are built on a modified civilian platform and returned to civilian duty at the end of its life cycle, the super cop car will use an aluminum space frame covered in composite panels. However, with patrol-related hardware and flashing lights already integrated, the vehicles would be returned back to Carbon Motors at the end of their service life for servicing or dismantled for parts. This includes having the E7 return to the factory when an agency wishes to dispose of one.
