Skoda has unveiled the estate version of the Rapid sedan ahead of its world premiere at Septemberís Frankfurt Motor Show.

The official press release describes the new model as the first Skoda hatchback in the high volume compact segment that looks dynamic and fresh for young customer groups.

An interesting feature of the Rapid Spaceback is the optional full length tinted panoramic glass roof which stretches from the windscreen to the rear window. A roof-mounted spoiler, which is of similar shade as the glass roof, adds a touch of sportiness to the car.

The Rapid Spaceback has a cargo space of 415 litres. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo volume increases to 1,380 litres. The SpaceBack body style is 180mm shorter than the sedan, which measures 4,483mm long.

The Rapid Spaceback will be powered by the same range of engines as the sedan. Petrol options include a 1.2-litre MPI with 74bhp, 1.2-litre TSI with either 84bhp or 104bhp and a 1.4-litres TSI with 122bhp. The diesel option consists of a 1.6-litre TDI with 89bhp or 104bhp.

I have been a car fanatic since 1989, when my father was changing our family car then to a Toyota Corolla 1.6 GL fitted with a Twin Cam 16 valve engine that was carburetor-fed, a big deal back in those days. The automobile technology and industry fascinates me and I hope to broadcast these interesting developments to everyone out there through this blog.
