CitroŽn announced last year of its intention to launch a series of new vehicles. Most of them will be versions of existing cars, such as the new AirCross, which is based on the C3 Picasso. The car will be first presented in Brazil, possibly in the second semester of 2010. However, its first official images have been released through Twitter.
The AirCross differentiates itself from the C3 Picasso with a higher suspension, revised front grille, a spare tire fixed on the back door of the car, side skirts and inscriptions with the name of the car all around. The higher suspension and the additional body mountings should give the AirCross additional dimensions as compared to the C3. Its luggage compartment should be able to swallow more loads due to the space evacuated by the spare tire in the boot. Engine wise, the AirCross is expected to be launched with a 1.6 liter engine with flex-fuel capability.
The new crossover will be on sale in the North America market and it is not confirmed if other markets will receive it as well. A direct competitor to the AirCross would be the VW CrossPolo. The VW offering looks sleaker and should have an edge over its Citroen rival with the famed 7 speed DSG.
